The book is divided into three sections. The first deals with the origin of Vedanta Philosophy in which he throws light on the importance of Philosophy, Vedanta both Philosophy and Religion, Upanishads as Vedanta, four stages of life, the relation of the soul to Brahaman, growth of religious and philosophic thought, forms of Vedanta, etc.

The second deals with the soul and God which throws light on extract from the Upanishads, Shankara's analysis of subject and object, inheritance of the Vedanta, relations between higher and lower Brahman, higher and living Atman, different views in Indian Philosophy etc

The third and last deals with Indian and European Philosophy which throws light on strangeness of Eastern Philosophy books for the study of Vedanta, nature of Avidya and Maya, knowledge of Brahman, Gods of other religions, Vedanta in practical life, Ethics of the Vedanta,doctrine of Karman,pre-existence of the soul ,recapitulation etc.
